Pour éviter une saturation cognitive nous sommes obligés de filtrer, trier les informations de la réalité extérieure. Imaginez-vous dans le métro : percevez-vous absolument tout ce qui se passe dans la rame durant votre voyage ?
Impossible évidemment déjà parce que nos récepteurs sensoriels ont des limites. Enfin pour repérer le charmant jeune homme en costard au fond à droite aucun problème !
Quels sont les filtres qui nous font interpréter la réalité ?
Le filtre sensoriel : on est plus au moins sensible aux voix, aux odeurs, aux goûts..etc..
Le filtre culturel : nos valeurs, notre langage…etc..
Le filtre personnel : notre enfance, notre éducation, nos expériences professionnelles et personnelles, nos croyances…etc…
Cette interprétation personnelle s’appelle en PNL : « notre carte du monde ».
Et grande nouvelle (ou pas !) nous traduisons la réalité en grande partie selon nos croyances !
Petit point sémantique : une croyance est une pensée construite et personnelle dont nous avons la conviction qu’elle est vraie. Par exemple : « le monde va très mal » « les ados sont horribles à vivre » « le mojito est bon pour la santé » « si je mange des carottes avec la raclette je prendrais moins de poids », « avec un beau décolleté on réussit sa vie » …….
Comment se sont forgées ces croyances ? Elles peuvent venir d’évènements vécus, de notre culture, de connaissances que nous avons acquises, d’opinions que nous nous sommes faites. Nous tirons des leçons de nos expériences, ces leçons sont des pensées qui deviennent nos croyances et nos croyances deviennent notre réalité.
C’est quoi le biais de confirmation ?
Et comme notre cerveau veut toujours nous faciliter la vie il va focaliser notre attention sur les informations qui confirment nos hypothèses, nos idées toute faites, nos croyances. Et du coup nous donnons moins d’importance aux choses qui pourraient nous faire changer d’avis. C’est ce qui s’appelle le biais de confirmation.
Par exemple si je suis convaincue de travailler dans une ambiance pourrie je vais focaliser mon attention sur
« Laura m’a à peine dit bonjour » « personne n’amène de croissants le matin au boulot » « le chauffage est en panne c’est le Pôle Nord dans mon bureau » « le boss ne m’a pas félicitée pour mes résultats »
Remarquons que nos pensées dépendent en grande partie aussi de l’humeur dans laquelle je me trouve. Si je vais au boulot de bonne humeur voici ce que donnerait les remarques précédentes :
« Laura est peu bavarde elle doit avoir des soucis, je lui parlerai à midi » « c’est bien qu’il n’y ait pas de croissants ça m’évite de craquer » « le froid brûle les calories c’est parfait ! » « Le boss n’a pas eu le temps de me féliciter mais Seb a remarqué mes mon balayage couleur caramel au beurre salé » …
Et quand mon interprétation de la réalité ne me convient pas ?
On fait comment ? Déjà on prend conscience de cette réalité qui est que chacun a sa réalité !!! Ensuite on essaie de « contrer » ce biais de confirmation en portant son attention sur d’autres éléments que ceux vers lesquels on irait spontanément. Par exemple lorsqu’on a face à nous, une table garnie pour l’apéritif et que, rien qu’en regardant les chips, on visualise notre balance rouge de colère on se force à observer la jolie couleur des olives ou à renifler (avec distinction bien entendu) le doux parfum des poivrons grillés.
Autre chose : on n’oublie pas que notre émotion du moment conditionne notre perception des faits et que, du coup, selon notre humeur un simple « ouais c’est ça » prononcé par Mathieu notre ado de fils peut dégénérer en épreuve de lancer de couteaux de cuisine.
En résumé pour une même situation factuelle chacun interprète selon sa carte du monde. Alors on reste prudent avec notre interprétation, on respire profondément, on prend de la hauteur (non manger de la soupe ne sert plus à rien) on prend conscience de son émotion, on la nomme (pas à voix haute si possible) et on cherche à porter son attention sur d’autres éléments plus apaisants ou plus positifs (la photocopieuse marche aujourd’hui waouhhhhhhhh, j’ai une chance extraordinaire d’avoir un pyjama en pilou-pilou…) et on SOURIT.
